WATER INTAKE AND WEIGHT LOSS

The majority of people I know do not drink enough water-myself included, depending on the day. I know it can be very difficult when you get busy, your day flies by in a blur, and next thing you know, four hours have gone by without a sip of water.

We should each start our day with a glass of water-as soon as we wake up in the morning. It rehydrates us after the night. I find it amazing that we will go out of our way to obtain that cup of coffee or tea on which we seem to rely on to get us through the morning. However, there seems to be an unlimited number of excuses as to why we can’t get those first glasses of water into our bodies at the start of our morning. The excuses continue when looking at our total daily water intake.

Why is Water so Important?

  • Water is VITAL to the metabolic processes of the body
  • Water is essential in promoting optimal function of our kidneys and bowels
  • Water helps regulate our core body temperature
  • Water aids in the transport of nutrients throughout our bodies
  • Water intake promotes the elasticity of our skin

But guess what else…

  • Our bodies register hunger and thirst in a similar manner. For this reason, we will sometimes eat thinking we are hungry when really it is hydration that our body is seeking. AND…water acts as a natural appetite suppressant.

So if you are trying to lose weight and are not ingesting enough water it’s a no brainer to realize that your body cannot support an increase in metabolism, and you may also be overreating as a result of your thirst.

Have a glass of water as soon as you wake in the morning, this will start your day off with an energy boost. Have another after breakfast. Throughout the day be sure to drink your 8-10 glasses. This will ensure not only the energy boost, but increased concentration, and a healthy lean body mass.
